Each year the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) participates in the UQ Summer and Winter Research Scholarship Program.
As the largest social science research institute in Australia, and a national leader in advanced interdisciplinary social science and evidence based policy research, the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) is uniquely placed to offer high quality research training. Scholars actively participate in an ongoing research project or undertake a substantial piece of supervised research work during either the Summer or Winter holiday periods.
By participating in undergraduate research programs, students gain valuable academic and professional skills, have an opportunity to develop links with industry and academic contacts, and are able to test drive research before embarking on further research studies or higher degree research projects.
“Scholars are a great way for early career researchers to gain experience supervising junior colleagues and to develop skills in planning tasks, communicating expectations and providing mentorship. ” Dr Renee Zahnow, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, ISSR
“The most incredible experience in my years as a student has been participating as a research scholar at ISSR. This opportunity provided me with valuable insight into the real-world research that takes place at the Institute, and the chance to learn from world-class researchers from various disciplines. ” Ms Heidi Hoffmann, 2016 Winter and Summer Scholar
Heidi went on to enrol as an Honours student, and work as a research assistant at ISSR, and is starting her PhD at ISSR in 2020.
