Centre for Social Data Analytics - UQ site

In 2019, ISSR established a site of the Centre for Social Data Analytics (CSDA). CSDA was founded at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in 2016 and is an international leader in data science research for social good. The Centre is widely regarded for its human-centred approach to applying machine learning methods to high stakes decision-making.

Significant CSDA projects have included the development of the Allegheny Family Screening Tool in Pittsburgh, USA, which was the first application of predictive risk modelling for child welfare call screening. The tool was evaluated by Stanford University and continues to be used by Allegheny County to guide frontline decisions. CSDA has engaged with jurisdictions in USA, Chile and Australia to explore various use cases for predictive risk modelling in health and human services.

Rhema Vaithianathan, Director of CSDA, is a Professor of Social Data Analytics at ISSR. This collaboration between the University of Queensland and AUT will allow ISSR to draw on the international experience of CSDA and develop capability for the utilisation of social data science in Australia.
