Ivete Meque finished her studies in general medicine in 2005 at Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique. Her career spans across clinical practice, health services/ program management and infectious disease research. Ivete completed her Masters in Epidemiology at University of Queensland in 2013. In the last 3 years, she has worked as an independent consultant for UNICEF and WHO in Mozambique and Guinea Bissau.

She commenced her PhD in February 2016 investigating the persistence of risky alcohol consumption in young adults looking into its predictors and outcomes and also exploring the role of maturing out phenomenon of risky drinking in light of social dynamics which have dramatically altered in recent years including increases in drinking among contemporaneous young females, delay in marriage and child bearing.
