Rod McCrea is an adjunct research fellow with ISSR and a social scientist with the Social and Economic Sciences Program, CSIRO Ecosystem Sciences. His research interests come under the theme of quality of life studies: his psychology honours examined mood bias in life satisfaction judgements, his PhD examined links between objective characteristics and subjective evaluations of urban quality of life, and his two postdoctoral fellowships examined work-life balance issues, community social wellbeing, and urban liveability. His current research interests are at the interface of the physical environment and human behaviour.
- Urban quality of life (residential relocation decisions, commuting, neighbourhood amenity, subjective well-being, psychological judgement processes and biases, neighbourhood social relationships and processes)
- Community social wellbeing (sense of community, sense of place, social capital, collective efficacy, social isolation)
- Work-family balance (work-family interference and enhancement, coping strategies, norms, identity, gender roles and equity)
- Environment and behaviour (urban geography, urban sociology, human spatial behaviour, environmental psychology, environmental sociology)
